The first season of Sony’s Spider-Man series will arrive on Netflix on June 1. It follows the success of No Way Home, which saw Andrew Garfield reprising his role as Peter Parker. Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire also appeared in the film.
Five years after the release of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, Sony Pictures released Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. It was a different take on the character, with a focus on Peter Parker’s high school years. The studio then decided to start from scratch with a new story that focuses more on his origins.
Coming off the success of his performance in “The Social Network,” Andrew Garfield was ready to go back to playing Spider-Man in “The Spider-Man 2.” He was paired with Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy in the film. The film sees the web-slinger going up against Dr. Connors, played by Rhys Ifans, who is trying to turn people into reptiles using the chemicals he’s used.
The film was praised by critics, with Andrew Stone and Andrew Garfield’s performances being cited as the main reasons for its success. It went on to gross over $600 million worldwide.
The success of Marvel Studios’ “The Guardians of the Galaxy” inspired Sony to make “The Spider-Man 2,” which was a follow-up to the studio’s previous “The Spider-Man.” Unfortunately, the film was met with mixed reviews. Many of the critics criticized the film for taking too long to build a new universe for the web-slinger.
After reaching an agreement with Sony, Marvel was able to add Spider-Man to its roster of characters. Tom Holland was cast as the character in “Captain America: Civil War.”
Before the release of No Way Home, which stars Andrew Garfield as the new Spider-Man, fans had been speculating about his possible involvement in the MCU. However, the actor denied his involvement. After the film’s release in December 2021, fans started calling for Sony to produce a third Spider-Man movie. Despite this, the actor stated that he has no plans to return to the role of Peter Parker anytime soon.
