Before relocating to Orlando, Shaquille O’Neal was tutored by Magic Johnson before being selected first overall by the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft.

In his debut week in the NBA, O’Neal instantly created history by being the first player to be selected Player of the Week. He was a member of the Magic until the 1995–96 campaign, at which point he was a free agent for the 1996–97 campaign.

He was chosen for the 1996 US Olympic basketball team, which went on to win the gold medal. He signed a seven-year contract to play with the LA Lakers after the Olympics. O’Neil persisted in raising his stats and guiding his group to victories.
