Early in 1971, 20-year-old Rush Limbaugh found work as a DJ at McKeesport, Pennsylvania’s WIXZ-AM, a Top 40 station, after quitting college. He used to work in the afternoons as “Bachelor Jeff” Christie on the radio before switching to the morning drive time. After working at WIXZ for eighteen months in 1973, Limbaugh was let go because of a “personality clash” with the program director. Afterwards, he began working nights at Pittsburgh’s KQV-AM. Late in 1974, Limbaugh was fired when new management put the program director under pressure to do so.
At the Kansas City, Missouri-based Top 40 station KUDL, Limbaugh launched an afternoon show in 1975.
