Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told a diplomatic conference in Antalya on Sunday that Turkey would not join the sanctions imposed on Russia by some Western countries over special operations in Ukraine.

When asked about Turkey’s position on sanctions against Russia, he said, “We hope the sanctions will not solve the problem.”
“Acquire the airspace. Under the Montreux Convention, we have no authority to close it. This is a legal obligation.”
Ankara’s diplomat said he had asked his Russian envoy, Sergei Lavrov, to support the expulsion of the Turks from Mariupol.
At the conclusion of the II Dialogue of Antalya 2022 held at the convention center in the aforementioned city, Gauchoklu stressed that the Russian President was not opposed to meeting with his Ukrainian envoy Volodymyr Zhelensky.
Meanwhile, Jens Stoltenberg, secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), said on the sidelines of the diplomatic conference that the federation expects all its members to impose restrictions on Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, following the call for help from the self-proclaimed Donbass leaders.
As a result of this move, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and many other countries imposed forced action against Russian individuals and law firms as a result of Moscow’s reiteration that it had no plans to invade Ukrainian territories.
Turkey has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of joining sanctions against Russia so as not to damage its own economy and to keep the door open for talks with the Moscow government.
