Lifestyle

House

Wayne Gretzky resided in the 13,000-square-foot Thousand Oaks mansion in California with his wife Janet.

The lavish palace, which was built in the Colonial Revival style, included six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and two guest houses.

Later, in 2007, after selling it to baseball legend Lenny Dykstra, the Gretzky couple emigrated.

The Gretzky couple bought it back for $14.9 million in 2018. In 2021, Gretzky resold the mansion for $17.6 million.

But The House Was Too Big For The Couple

Similar to the spacious living area, it offers breathtaking long-distance views of the Conejo Valley and is surrounded by enormous windows.

The same goes for a tennis court fit for the championships, a gigantic pool, a complete gym, and a detached garage with four parking spaces.

The Gretzky couple decided it was too big to manage with their five children out of the house, despite the house having a variety of amenities.

Book

Numerous books about Wayne Gretzky’s life and career history have been written. Gretzky: An Autobiography and 99: My Life in Pictures are a couple of his publications from 1999.

He released 99: Stories of the Game in 2016, which went on to become one of Canada’s best-selling books that year.

Career

In 1978, Gretzky signed a contract with the Indianapolis Racers. The team shut its doors and gave the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers a youthful asset.

He entered his first full NHL season the following year. As a result of his excellent performance, he went on to win the league’s Hart Memorial Trophy. The most valuable player was honoured with the award.

Wayne Gretzky high totals and goals in his hockey games earned him the moniker “The Great One.” The Oilers sent Gretzky to Los Angeles in 1988 in exchange for a number of players. He put on a Kings jersey for the first time in the fall of 1988.

Over the next eight seasons, Gretzky served as the team’s captain. In 1993, he led the team to the Stanley Cup finals.

Wayne began playing with the St. Louis Blues in 1996. He moved again to the New York Rangers after only one season.

He continued to play with the New York Rangers for three more seasons before calling it a day in 1999. One of the best hockey players of all time, Gretzky is regarded as one of the game’s most dominant scorers. 61 NHL records are his.

Gretzky quotes:

After his final game, he declared, “Not only am I emotionally ready to retire, I’m physically ready to retire.” “It’s tough. This game is fantastic, but it’s challenging. I’m prepared.

Currently, Gretzky resides in California with his family and works in the restaurant and wine industries.

Endorsement & Business Ventures

Wayne Gretzky made history during his NHL career and then substantially engaged in the ownership of other sports organisations after retiring.

Several NHL teams approached him about an ownership position after his retirement.

For CAD 175,000 in 1985, Gretzky acquired the Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

He later sold the team for CAD 550,000 ($411,144) in 1992. He changed the team’s colours to silver and black while he was the owner.

Wayne Gretzky was a part owner of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 1991, when Bruce McNall bought the team and later sold it.

Along with McNall, he paid $451,000 for a rare Honus Wagner T206 cigarette card, which he later sold. The price of the cigarette card was $2.8 million.
